Why Save the Children?

“It was actually my niece and nephew who made me realize I wanted to work with Save the Children. Looking at them growing up, then thinking about my own childhood, I realized just how fortunate we are with family, schooling, and opportunities beyond. It made me realize that not every child has this, so I wanted to contribute in a meaningful way to children who might need some extra support”

Hands on Learning Program:

Every child deserves a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. Yet, an estimated 5.4 million children under age 5 still die each year from preventable causes, 250 million children around the world can’t read, despite years of schooling, and far too many children are experiencing physical and emotional abuse, sexual exploitation, deprivation and neglect. That's why as global leaders in child health, education and protection, we're working in more than 100 countries to change the lives of over 100 million children every year.

Hands on Learning is a practical school-based program that runs in more than 130 primary and secondary schools across Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and Queensland. The program builds wellbeing, engagement, and increases student achievement by creating opportunities for young people to discover their talents and experience success through practical learning out of the classroom.
